Northern Michigan University’s Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences Department offers a Geomatics major and minor, and a Geographic Information Systems certificate program. The program integrates the geomatics courses with computer science, statistics and other courses offered at NMU. The NMU Geomatics program is linked closely with the university mobile device computer initiative.
NMU EEGS students can ask at the HelpDesk to have ESRI and ERDAS GIS software downloaded to their ThinkPad laptop computers.
The program also has a fully equipped GIS and spatial analysis lab. The lab is equipped with survey grade GPS equipment, mobile device docking stations, wide screen flat panel monitors, printers, a 44” poster plotter, 44” wide format scanner and an enterprise file server.
