Suzanne Standerford joined the School of Education, Leadership and Public Service faculty in 1992 after completing her doctorate at Michigan State University. Originally, Suzanne is from Indianapolis, Indiana, but she and her husband Steve moved to the U.P. because of the cooler weather and the many opportunities for outdoor adventures. Prior to coming to NMU, Suzanne taught various grades in the elementary school in Indiana, Michigan, and on the island of Taiwan. She was also a reading and math specialist in an elementary school in Lower Michigan. Suzanne loves her work at NMU because of the wonderful students, the close relationships with local teachers, and the caring faculty in the School of Education, Leadership and Public Service. Suzanne and Steve have two adult children, Wendy and Chris, as well as two in-law children, Jeff and Abby. Each couple has two little girls. Suzanne and Steve love to travel, relax with family, and enjoy time boating and canoeing in the summer. In the winter they enjoy snowshoeing and reading good books.
