School of Education Accreditation and State Approval

Having a professional accreditation guarantees our students entering their respective fields that they are suitably prepared to practice in their professions.  Having accreditation also informs the public that the Northern Michigan University School of Education operates at a high level of educational quality and integrity.

The School of Education at Northern Michigan University was accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) from 1989 to 2009.

On December 11, 2009 the School of Education at Northern Michigan University was accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). NMU’s TEAC accreditation is effective until December 11, 2014.

Programs through the School of Education at Northern Michigan University are approved by the Michigan Department of Education.
