Michael Walleman received his undergraduate degree from Wayne State University in Business Administration.  He obtained a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from NMU in 2009.

He has been employed with the St. Clair Shores Police Department for over 23 years and is currently the Chief of Police.  He has held many positions within the department including patrol officer, undercover narcotics detective, K9 officer, patrol sergeant, criminal investigations detective sergeant narcotics detective sergeant, patrol lieutenant shift commander, traffic bureau lieutenant and the detective lieutenant in charge of the criminal investigations division.

His research studies focused on “Seniority Rights” in the union environment and their effects on officers moral and performance.  His thesis and findings were published in Police Chief Magazine in 2010.

As Chief of Police, Michael has been working towards developing a quantitative performance evaluation system and is reorganizing the department through attrition and the hiring of new officers. His goal is to reinvigorate the agency to provide the citizens with the highest level of professional police services.

Michael is an Executive Board member of the Macomb County Association of Chiefs of Police. Two of his sons are also police officers in Macomb County.
