Advising Process

Students who enter the LPM program will be advised by Professor Robert Hanson. If you have questions, please contact him at bhanson@nmu.edu or 906-227-1783.

  • You will be required to maintain a current advising sheet to help you track your degree requirements.
  • Download the appropriate interactive advising sheet from the Forms tab located at the top of this page and start filling in the blanks with the courses you have completed. Keep this sheet saved on your computer and keep it up to date at all times. Try to strategize by taking courses from different areas to maximize you options for course enrollments. For example, take a LP course, a course for your minor, and a liberal studies course. Save your electives until later when you need to fill in courses when you can't get into other courses. Remember to check for any pre-requisite courses before enrolling in a course.
  • Review Instructions For Filling Out Your Advising Sheet. This is an explanation that guides you through entering information on your advising sheet. If you are a transfer student, we recommend that you follow the guidelines in this document to assist you in determining what courses you have completed and what requirements you still need to complete for your degree. If you are a transfer student, you will need to utilize your Transfer Evaluation form and plot out the courses on your advising sheet to see what courses apply toward your degree in the respective areas and what courses remain to complete your degree.

What is the first LPM course I should take? You will be required to enroll in LPM 101, Principles of Asset Protection. This is a pre-requite course for all other LPM courses in your major. You must pass this course with a "C" or better before being allowed to register for further LPM courses.
