Regional Skills Alliances

Northern Michigan University is an active participant in the State of Michigan’s Regional Skills Alliances program, which fosters communication between K-12, higher education, support agencies and industry to ensure that current and future workforce needs of the Upper Peninsula and surrounding areas are met.

Several NMU initiatives presently exist on a local level to bolster industry on a regional level. Northern’s goal is to create new alliances, strengthen and expand old alliances and offer additional support where needed in order to guarantee a healthy industry to future generations of the region.

Current alliances are held with the several professional, regional organizations of these industries: healthcare, line technicians, industrial manufacturing, construction trades, timber and forest products, tourism, food and beverage, and lodging and resort.
