Professorial Candidate Presents Research

MARQUETTE, Mich .— A candidate for assistant professor of psychology at Northern Michigan University will present his research at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, in Room 167 of Gries Hall. The presentation, “A Brain System for Attentional Bias to Subliminal Threat: Evidence from Functional and Structural Neuroimaging,” will be given by Joshua Carlson from Stony Brook University.

Carlson’s presentation will discuss how humans have evolved to allocate attentional resources to threats within their environment, but the threat bias is stronger amongst people who suffer from anxiety.

This presentation is a part of the “Discourses from the Academy” colloquium series sponsored by NMU’s psychology department. It is free and open to the public. For details, contact the psychology department at 227-2935.
