Caps, Gowns & Tassels

Academic regalia must be purchased at the NMU Bookstore, located in the University Center.

  • Students can purchase graduation apparel up to the day of graduation. Availability will be limited and a late charge will apply.

Bookstore hours are:

• Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• Saturday of Commencement, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m

When ordering your cap and gown, you need to provide your weight and height. You will be measured for your cap by the assistant.

You do not have to return your cap and gown. You have purchased them and they are yours to keep. Students may wear a gown worn by a friend from a previous ceremony.

You may want to lightly iron your gown or at least hang it out before coming to the ceremony. Gowns are made of special fabric so use caution when ironing.

Be careful what you wear under your gown, in high intensity lighting they become semi-transparent.
