Amer Mansoor is a pre-med student from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, majoring in communication studies with a minor in chemistry. During his time at Northern, he developed his leadership skills as Director of External Affairs for ASNMU, helping to restart the Bike Share Program. He is a television news anchor for Public Eye News and is a member of the Medstart Program and a student researcher for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center. Amer is the founder and president of the Muslim Student Association of NMU which provides a safe home for the Muslim community in the Upper Peninsula. He has also worked as a teaching assistant for the biology freshman seminar classes.
Amer will be starting medical school at Wayne State University in the fall, and intends to become a surgeon. After medical school, he plans to serve the people of the Detroit Metro Area as a medical professional.
This year, he was awarded the honor of Outstanding Graduating Male Senior, along with the Outstanding Graduating Senior in the Communication Studies Department. Amer said, "I appreciate the inclusion and acceptance I have felt for my diversity at Northern these past four years. I encourage my fellow Wildcats to allow themselves to be silently drawn by the strange pull of what they truly love."
