National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA)
Undergraduate students are encouraged to join the department's chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), a pre-professional organization affiliated with the American Speech Language-Hearing Association. Members enjoy professional benefits, such as subscriptions to professional journals and reduced conference fees. However, the real benefit is from the friends they make and the activities in which the organization participates. The NMU NSSLHA chapter has been active in many community activities, including fundraising and special projects. There are occasional guest speakers and frequent social gatherings. NSSLHA membership helps students feel a part of their department and their chosen profession.

The American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the professional, scientific and credentialing association for more than 118,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language and hearing scientists.
