Marquette Choral Society to Present 2011 Spring Concert April 16-17

The Marquette Choral Society will present a concert of works by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Dave Brubeck and Richard Biggs on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 PM and on Sunday, April 17 at 3:00 PM at the Reynolds Recital Hall on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

Included on the program are the innovative Williams "Mass in G minor", a memorable "Lenten Tryptich" by Brubeck, and "Alleluia" by Richard Biggs.  The Choral Society will be joined by the Northern Michigan University Choir and Madrigal Singers in this concert.

Four soloists from the NMU choirs will sing during the Williams "Mass in G minor". 

The soloists are pictured above:  Soprano Lindsay Luft, a freshman from Northport, New York; alto Martha Lundin, a freshman from Northfield, Minnesota; tenor Carl Safford, a senior from Vassar, Michigan; and bass Andrew Shirtz from Marquette.

Dr. Floyd Slotterback directs the Choral Society and the NMU student groups.  Lynne Lanczy, who accompanies the Choral Society, will play the Reynolds Recital Hall organ in the concert.

The annual Upper Peninsula Choral Leadership Award will be presented to Sheila Grazulis and Tony Beacco, music teachers in the Ishpeming and Nice School districts, respectively.
