Jackson Berkey and Marquette Choral Society

Jackson Berkey is the second composer (following Dave Brubeck) who has written new choral works under commission from the Marquette Choral Society. He began his Mass Over a Period of Time with the Kyrie which was premiered by the Marquette Choral Society in April of 1994. The sixth section of this mass, the Qui tollis, was premiered by the Choral Society in April of1997.

Jackson Berkey is an outstanding pianist as well as a composer. Among other things he has done during his career, he has performed as keyboard player with Mannheim Steamroller on their "Fresh Aire" recordings and Christmas albums.

Jackson and his wife Almeda performed with the Choral Society at both of the concerts at which his compositions were premiered. Both concerts featured other delightful Berkey works for choir, as well as virtuostic piano playing by Jackson and vocal solo numbers by Almeda, a soprano.

Berkey's choral works are published by his own publishing firm, Soli Deo Gloria Press.
