Lucian Hunt Award

Andy Sikkema is the 2011 winner of the Lucian S. Hunt Award. This award is given to a graduating senior who is outstanding in academic achievement, committed to the chemical profession, and has a high potential for success in chemistry or chemistry-related research as a career. In addition, the award recipient must have completed two semesters of undergraduate physical chemistry. Andy has worked on a brain tumor research project with Dr. Rob Winn (Biology) for a number of years and also won our Outstanding Senior Award this year, see below. Andy is from Marquette and will be attending graduate school at the University of Michigan this fall.

	Outstanding Graduating Senior Andy Sikkema is the 2011 outstanding graduating senior in chemistry. This award is typically given to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average in a chemistry major. Eric graduated summa cum laude with a perfect 4.00 GPA in biochemistry. He is actively involved in brain tumor research under the guidance of Dr. Rob Winn (Biology). Andy is from Marquette, Mich.
	Analytical Award Alex Ling (left) won the department's 2011 award in analytical chemistry. This award recognizes academic excellence in quantitative analysis and chemical equilibrium. Alex is a biochemistry major from Bigelow, MN. Alex is shown with Dr. Eugene Wickenheiser.
	Alchemist Award Scott Smith is the recipients of 2011 Alchemist Award. This award recognizes academic excellence in two semesters of organic chemistry and is given to the top student(s). Scott is a physiology major (Biology) and from the upper peninsula of Michigan.
	General Chemistry/First-Year Chemistry Award Brennen Jaquint (right) is 2011 first-year chemistry award winner. This award recognizes academic excellence in two semesters of general chemistry. Brennen is a sports science major and involved with the USOEC weight-lifting team. He is from Evansville, WI and is pictured with Dr. Tom Getman.
	Griffith Chemistry Scholarship Award The Griffith Chemistry scholarship awardee for 2011 has not yet been announced.
