Bill Pistulka was hired in April 2007, as the charter schools officer for Northern Michigan University. He brings 27 years of experience in public education to the position. His resumé includes nine years of experience as a superintendent in three different school districts in the Upper Peninsula: Gladstone, Big Bay de Noc and Mid Peninsula.
Previously, he has educational experiences as a principal, teacher and coach in Rapid River and Clinton, Iowa.
Bill has been active in professional associations, such as serving as Michigan Association of School Administrators Region 1 treasurer and president-elect; being a representative on the Education Leadership Committee; along with implementing the CONECT School Reform model for school improvement and attending various workshops and training sessions throughout his career.
Community involvement has always been important to Bill. He has been the treasurer for Delta County Partners in Education; a Lions Club and Kiwanis member, which included starting a Key Club in Rapid River; a member of the YMCA board; Michigan High School Athletic Association basketball official; and a volunteer baseball and basketball coach.
In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening and travel.
