The mission of the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship at Northern Michigan University includes educating K-12 educators, students and parents of students about the economic way of thinking and instilling in them an appreciation for this rational, life-long way of thinking and its applications.
The center seeks to accomplish this mission by providing a variety of services, programs and resources. K-12 educator training programs, professional development workshops, graduate courses, outcomes assessment, standards-based educational materials and peer-reviewed products help the NMU-CEEE advance economic literacy across the region of the Upper Peninsula and the state of Michigan.
NMU-CEEE is a part of the Michigan Council on Economic Education which is, in turn, a member of the National Council on Economic Education. Hugo Eyzaguirre, a faculty member of the Economics Department, serves as the director.
Northern Michigan University’s Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship provides leadership, promoting and strengthening economic education in the region and state. Its goals are:
From 1979 to 1997, the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship (CEEE) at Northern served the teachers and schools of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It was revitalized in December 2003.
To fund the activities of the Center, NMU, through its College of Arts and Sciences, has committed office space, granted reallocation time for the center director and promised funding for the establishment of the Center’s materials and annual expenses. Additionally, MCEE has provided several administrative grants for miscellaneous expenses and national conference participation and presentation of the research of its center director.
