Help! I've lost my password. What do I do?
It happens. If you've lost your password, or if you don't remember the login screen that was sent to you when you first registered for the system, click here!
Can anyone use the system, or do I have to be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate?
Anyone can use the system so long as they are currently enrolled at NMU or have graduated from Northern. But...it's best if you wait until your senior year to load your resume (junior year if you're looking for an internship). If you load your resume when you're a freshman or sophomore, you'll have to make too many edits to keep it up to date.
I'm looking for a summer job. Should I use the Online Resume System?
Probably not. The Online Resume System is used primarily by students and graduates who are looking for internships right before they graduate or full-time jobs once they've earned their degree from NMU.
Do I have to have my resume done before I use the Online Resume System?
Yes. The Online Resume System takes your already-completed resume and loads it into the system. Unlike some less-effective systems, there are no text boxes you fill out in order to build your resume in our system. If you would like help building your resume before using the system, please contact Career Services to set up a time to speak with one of our staff.
Absolutely. Alumni are always welcome to use the services provided by Career Services.
Yes, it could. The system will automatically send you an email message one week before your resume is due to expire asking if you'd like to reactivate your account.
What type of format must I use for my resume?
You may upload either a PDF version or a .doc version of your resume for employers to view. Please do not save your resume as a .docx document in Microsoft Word 2007.
Do you check employers before giving them access to the Online Resume System?
Yes, we do. We do everything possible to verify an employer's authenticity before approving their request for access.
Will I have to pay to use the Online Resume System?
No. Like most services provided by the Career Services office, the Online Resume system is provided at no cost to users.
Will I know when an employer views my resume?
Not right now. As the system evolves, we may add this feature to future versions of the Online Resume System.
Can I edit my resume once I've loaded it into the Online Resume System?
Absolutely! One of the nicest features of this system is that you can edit your account, and your resume anytime. For this reason, it's important that you keep the confirmation code that we assigned you very secure once you register for the system.
Can an employer use a keyword search to find my resume?
Yes. We have built a keyword search function into the system. Once you have pasted your resume into the appropriate text box when you register, the keyword search used by employers can pick your resume based on any word in your document.
Will NMU Career Services market this system to employers?
Once we have a sufficient number of resumes loaded into the system, Career Services will send a notice to employers throughout the nation notifying them of this new service.
If I post my resume in the Online Resume System, will that guarantee me a job?
If that's all you do to find a job, the answer is "no". Finding a job is something that takes time, focus, energy, and multiple tools in order to be successful. Using the Career Service's Online Resume System is just one tool you should use. To find out more about the tools you should use, contact Career Services today and schedule a time to meet with one of our staff.
