Based on exercises from the book "What Color is Your Parachute", participants will work through seven sections to more fully understand what their interests, values, knowledge, skills and other factors are.

"If you don't know where you're going, you might wind up somewhere else."  This is just as true for careers as it is for anything else in life.  (Thanks, Yogi Berra!)  No sure where you're going? Let's talk about what SMART goals are, and work together to write some short-, medium-, long-term goals. 

Resumes & Cover Letters | Wednesday, February 15 @ 5 PM | 2303 C.B. Hedgcock
Learn to create an effective resume that will get you noticed in today's job market.  This workshop will cover resume writing techniques and you'll also learn how to avoid some common resume missteps.  Find out the best ways to start making your resume work harder for you!  Then learn about what makes an effective cover letter to go with it.  Be prepared to work on your existing resume, or create a new one from scratch - make sure you bring your laptop!

Identify your career options, and start to think about what interests and suits you best.  Then work to develop an action plan to reach your goals.

Guided Visualization for Careers | Wednesday, March 1 @ 4 PM | University Center-Pioneer Rooms
If you're struggling with career exploration, trying to identify a career field or looking for a little more clarity or confidence in the next steps for your career path, join us for a short guided visualization on careers.  Participants will be led through a short session, with time for internal self-reflection and group discussion as desired.

Job Fair Preparation | Tuesday, March 14 @ 5 PM | 2303 C.B. Hedgcock
Learn how to get the most out of job fairs by attending this workshop.  Find out what to expect from an event and learn how best to prepare.  We'll also cover what you should do and expect on the day of the job fair, as well as how to follow up.

Creating a LinkedIn Account | Wednesday, March 15 @ 4 PM | 2303 C.B. Hedgcock
Do you know about LinkedIn?  This professional social network is used by 90% of recruiters to find new hires – will they find you?  Participants will learn about what makes an effective LinkedIn profile and leave with an account and profile.  Those with a previously created account are welcome to attend to find out how to maximize it.  Please come with your laptop – if you have a resume, it can be helpful to bring that as well.  Brought to you by Career Services and the Student Leader Fellowship Program.

Many people are turned away by the term "networking" - are you one of them?  You shouldn't be!  Attend this workshop to find out  more about what networking really is (hint-you're doing it all the time already...), why it's such an important took and how you can build up your network to find career guidance, internship opportunities and, yes, even a job.
