Northern Students Travel to Theater Festival

MARQUETTE, Mich. Jan. 15, 2013- Northern Michigan University students traveled to the Kennedy Center American College Theater Region III Festival (KCACTF) over winter break. The students attended the festival, hosted at Saginaw Valley State University, to participate in scholarship auditions, design and technical theater presentations, and to attend shows and workshops.

Students had the opportunity to learn skills for and from theater professionals, ranging from networking to dancing to physical acting, and students participated in competitions throughout the festival. NMU students Kristy Priest, Meghan Marquardt, Courtney Brown, Charlie Jauquet, and Jalina Olgren participated in Design, Technology, and Management events.  Taylor Kulju, Adam Lowe and Meghan Marquardt competed for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship, and Jacob Barbot and James Porras II directed staged readings at the festival. Festival participants received recognitions for their efforts as well.  The director and ensemble of Bears received a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Director and Ensemble Collaboration. Meghan Marquardt was the recipient of the Program Note Award, and Charlie Jauquet and Jalina Olgren received the fastest time for Set/Carpentry in the Games of the Technological Olympiad.
