Timlin Receives Fellowship
Kevin Timlin, director of International Programs at Northern Michigan University, has earned one of five 2013-14 Neal Presidential Fellowships from the Association of International Education Administrators.
“As part of this fellowship, I’m matched with a seasoned professional as a mentor,” Timlin said. “My match is Larry Bell, director of the Office of International Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I’ll visit his campus and shadow him. There is also a conference for fellows that I will attend in February.”
NMU will receive a $1,500 stipend to support Timlin’s travel and related activities. He said the fellowship program is highly competitive. At the end of the academic year, Timlin will produce a final report about his experience, progress he made on key objectives and how the experience will influence his work at NMU.
Timlin oversees numerous aspects of comprehensive internationalization at NMU, including international enrollment management and study abroad. He has been actively involved in international education for more than 15 years. He served with the Peace Corps in the Kyrgyz Republic and was a Fulbright program grantee in South Korea. Timlin is a doctoral candidate in international education at the University of Minnesota. He also holds a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
