An article by David Bonsall, Jon Barch and Rachel Harris (Center for Student Enrichment) titled “The Community as a Classroom: Fostering and Measuring Leadership Development for More than 20 Years” was published in the November/December issue of Campus Activities Programming.
Neil Russell (Physics) and former NMU physics major Alexandra Fittante coauthored a paper, “Fermion observables of Lorentz violation,” in the December 2012 issue of Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics. This paper places new limits on quantities that measure possible deviations in experimental observations, which differ from the usual predictions. Fittante contributed most of the algebraic calculations in this article. Russell has worked in this area of research, seeking possible “Lorentz violations” in nature, for a number of years. The article can be found here.
Beverly Matherne (English) reports three recent publications. Two new poems, “Merlot” and “Don’t Brush These Lips” appeared in the anthology Voices Israel: Poets from Israel and Abroad. Three of her poems were published in a recent issue of Shabdaguchha: an International Bilingual Poetry Journal. Their titles are “Paper Boat,” “Madame Grands-Doigts et le ‘tit Christ” and “The Blues Cryin’.” Her translation of “Elles restent, les violettes,” by Jean-Luc Steinmetz appeared in Spillway Magazine.
