Two tobacco cessation information and awareness sessions remain on the summer schedule. These workshops are provided by the Marquette County Health Department and are free and open to any current NMU student, faculty, staff member or their dependents. To reserve a spot at one of the sessions, call the NMU Health Center at 227-2355.
The workshop dates are:
•Wednesday, June 25, 4 p.m., at the Health Center
•Wednesday, July 30, 4 p.m., at the Health Center
(The Health Center will only be open for the sessions at these times. No other services will be provided after regular university business hours.)
Sarah Derwin of the Marquette County Health Department is the workshop facilitator. The Marquette County Health Department's "Be Free" tobacco cessation program is described as a "no-pressure, one-time workshop that shows you how you can be tobacco-free. We give you the tools you will need to be successful when you are ready to quit tobacco use. You'll find ways to make it easier with helpful tips, information on medications, strategies and what help is available."
Free Quit Kits will be available to those who wish to get started immediately. Participants will also be introduced to campus-based resources.
If you cannot make one of these cessation information sessions but would like to have one-on-one assistance in helping you navigate options for quitting your tobacco use, contact the NMU Health Promotions Office at 227-1455 to set up an appointment.
Northern Michigan University will become a tobacco-free campus on Aug. 1, 2014. For more information about NMU's tobacco-free policy, please go to www.nmu.edu/tobaccofree.
