Insurance Industry Opportunities
by
Troy Cogan and Sean Coykendall
NMU Finance and Risk Management Students
The aging insurance industry is leaving a significant talent gap. While this is potentially troublesome for the industry, it provides a fantastic opportunity for new grads to move up the ranks in an organization relatively quickly. Almost every insurance company has an internship program and job placement is high. Insurance is not just about car insurance or health insurance; the insurance industry employs a wide range of individuals from IT to finance to actuaries. Risk management and actuarial science fraternity, Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS), provides students with an opportunity to network with insurance and actuarial companies through various national conferences and partnerships. GIS also has links to dozens of different scholarships available to students interested in the industry.
Troy and Sean will also talk about their own summer internships in the insurance industry and how they relate to a finance and risk management major as well as the department actuarial sciences offerings
