Dean’s Welcome Message

       Welcome to another exciting year at Northern Michigan University. It is my pleasure to welcome you and extend my warm greetings to you as the new dean of the Walker L. Cisler College of Business. The College of Business at Northern Michigan University is committed to deliver high quality academic and related programs that prepare students for successful careers and responsible engagement in a pluralistic, global society.  I look forward to working with our faculty, students, and staff in achieving our goals.

    Our faculty are outstanding teachers who hold top degrees in their fields and are active researchers in their disciplines and are involved and engaged with the business community. Our class sizes provide a diverse and culturally rich learning environment on our safe, clean, friendly, and natural campus, while allowing one-on-one time with our professors. You’ll also have the opportunity to work side-by-side with your professors and classmates on community projects, both locally and internationally.

    Our campus also houses a university theater, an award-winning library, a university center, two art galleries, a state of the art trading room, and a three-structure sports and recreation complex of which one is the Superior Dome, the world’s largest wooden dome. The natural beauty and recreational opportunities you will find at Northern can not be found anywhere else. The people of Marquette are some of the most genuine and friendly you will ever meet. Local businesses are often very involved with many of the programs and events happening on campus.

    NMU Alumni are positioned in some of the world’s premier business, government, and educational institutions. The College of Business alumni, a network of over 7800 over five decades, are willing to share their experiences with students to further their success. These alumni frequently come back to our beautiful city of Marquette to engage with our current students.

    Our professional staff  is committed to help you adjust to our beautiful culture at NMU and they make sure that your transition to the new environment is rewarding. The faculty and staff are dedicated to our business students. We will do all that we can to help you succeed in your study of business and in your later career. While our focus is mainly on our undergraduate business programs, we will also build our strategy to further grow and enhance our newly created MBA program.

    In brief, at NMU’s College of Business we take pride in the quality of the faculty and staff who are very interested in your success. You will receive personalized attention, hands-on-team-building, service learning opportunities, study abroad opportunities, caring community and smaller class size which allows for a high level of interaction between students and faculty. You will leave our campus well prepared for the business world.
