Degree or Program Details

Science Technologist Major

This major prepares graduates to be premier laboratorians who are employable in a variety of laboratory settings (clinical, commercial, research, biotechnology and forensic). Students are exposed to a wide variety of methods, principles, instruments, technical skills and laboratory problems. The curriculum is built upon a firm foundation in clinical techniques, but students have options in course selection to pursue one of three areas: clinical certification, biotechnology or forensics. Students who have first completed an associate degree program in clinical lab technician, histotechnician or science technician will find that much of their course work may be applied to the science technologist degree.

Students interested in graduate education and the physician assistant program may choose additional courses in organic chemistry, physical chemistry, calculus and cell biology. Students may also consider a major in biology/physiology or biochemistry if graduate education is the goal.
