INTRODUCTION TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE FALL 2009 STUDENT COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER

Chair Roberts, Members of the Board of Trustees, President Wong:

One of the special components of tomorrow’s graduation ceremonies is the student speaker’s Commencement address.  I am pleased to introduce the young woman who was selected as the student who will address the graduates tomorrow, Ms. Danielle Brandreth.

Please join me, Danielle.

Danielle enrolled at NMU in the fall of 2006; yes, she is graduating in 3 ˝ years.  From Sterling Heights, Michigan, Danielle is an English Writing major with a Journalism minor.  She will graduate cum laude tomorrow.

Danielle has been very active as a member of the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, and a graduate of the Student Leader Fellowship Program.  Danielle initiated a mentoring program between NMU and Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan as her Community Service Internship.  For her work on this program, Danielle was named the Volunteer of the Year by Teaching Family Homes and received the Heart and Soul award from the Michigan Campus Compact.  She has also completed all four edges of the Superior Edge program and is a member of the Mortar Board honor society.

Danielle plans to begin a Masters in Public Administration program in the Fall of 2010.

The theme of Danielle’s speech tomorrow is how far the graduates have come since they started at NMU.

Chair Roberts, I believe you have a presentation to make.
