The University, in partnership with Argonne National Laboratory, maintains a small research vessel, R.V. ERDA 1. The R.V. ERDA 1 is an aluminum 24' Monark tri-hull primarily designed for nearshore work, especially benthological surveys. The R.V. ERDA 1 has been used for a variety of projects including benthic sampling and as a platform for SCUBA diving surveys of zebra mussels in the waters near Marquette.
In addition to the R.V. ERDA 1, the department maintains a variety of small motorized johnboats for research project use and several canoes for teaching and research purposes.
