My teaching and research interests fall in the general area of cell
and molecular biology. The nucleus of a typical cell contains tens of thousands
of genes, but only a small percentage of these genes are turned on to make
RNA in a particular cell type. I am interested in the way that genes are
turned on and off, and how the expression of different genes can cause
a cell to develop specific characteristics.
