 Neuroscientist

 The Biology Department at Northern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-earning faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2013. The position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent. We seek a neuroscientist committed to teaching and scholarship with an active research program that can involve undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching responsibilities may include cell and molecular biology, physiology of aging, advanced cell biology, introductory biology and courses in toxicology or other area of specialization.

 Selection Criteria for Neuroscientist Position:

Required

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field
  • Complete application (C.V., statements of teaching and research philosophies, contacts for references)
  • Commitment to teaching
  • Ability to teach cell and molecular biology, physiology of aging, advanced cell biology, introductory biology, and advanced courses in neurobiology and/or toxicology.
  • Ability to establish an active research program with undergraduate and graduate students

 Desirable

  • Toxicology or health related research field
  • Demonstrated teaching experience, particularly in courses listed above
  • Commitment to the mission of a public comprehensive university
  • Record of successful grant writing
  • Record of peer-reviewed publication appropriate to career stage
  • Willingness and ability to work interdepartmentally (Psychology, Chemistry, Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences, Clinical Lab Sciences Departments)
  • Potential for collaborative research with other institutions

Anatomy and Physiology

 The Biology Department at Northern Michigan University invites applications for a three-year term faculty position at the level of Instructor in Biology beginning August 2013. The position requires an M.S. in Biology or equivalent and experience in teaching anatomy and physiology. We seek an anatomist or physiologist committed to teaching with an active interest in undergraduate education. Teaching responsibilities include human anatomy and physiology, human anatomy, and human physiology.
