The mission of the Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center is to preserve and present the history and culture of the people of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The U.P. Heritage Center does this through an active schedule of public programs and exhibitions and by collecting the material culture of the region. The center also collects artifacts and creates displays about the history of Northern Michigan University.
The center has a large museum gallery located on the first floor of Griess Hall, featuring a revolving schedule of temporary exhibitions and some permanent installations. The center also maintains historical displays throughout the NMU campus, including several displays along the perimeter of the Superior Dome, in the Seaborg Center and in the University Center.
The center manages an active schedule of events including the Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival, the Sonderegger Symposium and the NMU International Performing Arts Series.
