Biographical note
John Langaas, born in 1860, was a Norwegian immigrant living in Ishpeming, Michigan. Langaas was an extremely religious man, and described his beliefs in detail in his diaries. Langaas died in 1924.
Scope and Contents Note
This collection is composed of five hard-bound diaries of John Langaas. Langaas was an extremely religious man, and his diaries go into great detail describing his religious practices and sentiments. The diaries are dated from November 1909 to June 1924, and are written in Norwegian. Clara Lee Swanson produced handwritten translations of nearly all of the first two bound volumes into English. The collection also includes a Norse Civic News article; Pastor Skrenes' 1992 sermon; Trinity Lutheran Church anniversary booklet (1996); Windows on the Past booklet (1987); John Olsen letter translation; and a Norwegian/English dictionary.
