Scope and Contents Note

The Local Truth is the official publication of the United Steel Workers of America Locals 4950 (Empire Mine) and 4974 (Tilden Mine) and documents union activity on the Marquette Iron Range in Marquette County, Michigan. This newspaper covers all union activities and includes an anniversary addition that recounts the 1946 Iron Miners Strike on the Marquette Iron Range. The publication serves as an information source on union activities and issues of interest to iron miners. It provides excellent documentation of the relationships between the two local unions and the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, operator of the two mines.
