Biographical Note

Leslie Bourgeois was born on July 28, 1901, in Marquette, Michigan, and lived there for many years. Mr. Bourgeois left Marquette to work in Livonia, Michigan, as a tool and die maker. After retiring, he moved to Phelps, Wisconsin, where he lived for the last 12 years of his life. Mr. Bourgeois married Myrtis in 1931. He died in 1984.

Throughout his life, Leslie Bourgeois enjoyed amateur filmmaking, mainly of family activities around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Scope and Contents Note

This collection contains extensive home movies documenting the activities of the Bourgeois family in and around Marquette, Michigan and the Upper Peninsula from 1920 to 1969. Footage includes scenes on the Northern Michigan University campus in Marquette. The collection includes VHS production originals and user duplicate copies.

Custodial History Note

Myrtis Bourgeois donated the collection to Northern Michigan University (NMU). Alison Crockett, an NMU graduate assistant, discovered the collection while conducting research for the centennial celebration documentary of Northern Michigan University. Northern Michigan University contracted a vendor in 1999 to convert the original 16mm film to VHS format.
