Biographical Note
Elizabeth Browne Beard Losey, a biologist and ornithologist, was born in Boston, MA. She was a resident of Germfask, Michigan after completing her education, but also spent her winters in Florida.
Losey conducted research and taught graduate courses at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Commission as a biologist beginning in 1947 and spent summers researching at Seney National Wildlife Refuge in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Several of her technical reports are also included in the collection as well as some biographical information.
Scope and Contents note
This collection is essentially a reference file of technical reports, popular journal articles, newspaper clippings, government documents, and miscellaneous publications relating to birds and mammals, many of which are indigenous to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The file was compiled by Elizabeth Browne Beard Losey, a biologist and ornithologist.
The bulk of the materials relate to birds and the focus of the entire collection is on wildlife management. In addition, the status of several imperiled species can be followed through press releases and newspaper clippings found in the collection.
