Kick-off event will include the unveiling of the Voelker Collection web exhibit by the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives about the writing of Anatomy of a Murder. 
Activities will also include refreshments at the library and a self-guided walking tour of Voelker sites in Ishpeming.

hosted by the PWPL in the Community Room.  Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

An exhibit of Voelker memorabilia, letters, documents, artifacts, and photographs will be on display on the
main floor of the library.  The exhibit will focus on John Voelker the “man” and will draw upon material
from the Marquette County Historical Museum, the NMU Beaumier Heritage Museum,
and the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives. 

A second exhibit of Anatomy of a Murder Movie Memorabilia can be viewed in the Violet Johnson Gallery
on the upper level of the Peter White Public Library.

John D. Voelker’s courtroom drama Laughing Whitefish tells the story of a young Chippewa woman’s struggle to collect a debt owed to her father by the Jackson Ore Company.  It is based on a case that went before the
Michigan Supreme Court three times in the 1880s before it was resolved. This session will discuss the book,
the actual Kawbawgam case and their impact on Michigan Native Americans.

Discussion of 
John D. Voelker’s angling stories featuring Trout Madness, Trout Magic, Anatomy of a Murder, and selected magazine articles.  Voelker, an avid fly fisherman, was known for weaving the art of fly fishing
into his fictional writings and wrote extensively about fishing and its impact on man’s psyche.
