View from the 6th floor!

Shorter days and cooler temperature have brought a hint of fall to the air. One can even catch a glimpse of leaves starting to lose their green.

The Alumni Relations office has a new view from the 6th floor. We have moved down the hall to 607 Cohodas Hall, take a right out of the elevator. Make sure to stop by and say hello.

Staying Wild: NMU Day at the LSCP

Wildcats at heart, Marquette’s Lake Superior Community Partnership celebrated “NMU Day” on Wednesday July 31.  In recognition of each employee being an NMU graduate, the team of eight staff members wore NMU clothing displaying their school spirit.  Also this summer, two NMU student interns were hired to gain real world and hands on learning experiences.

The Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) has been helping Marquette economically grow and develop since the early 1980’s. The group formally known as the Lake Superior Jobs Coalition, was created in efforts of saving jobs that were threatened in the mining industry and later to prevent the closure of the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in 1995. Although unsuccessful in saving the Air Force base, the partnership decided to continue working together and help Marquette County continue to prosper.

A few of the many services LSCP is able to provide include business advocacy, marketing strategies and event planning.  They have 600 partners and that number continues to increase on a monthly basis.  LSCP is one of the region’s leading business resources and with the rise of social media the group uses LinkedIn to share job postings weekly.  The NMU Alumni LinkedIn group is sharing LSCP’s “Job of the Week.”

For more information on the Lake Superior Community Partnership visit their website at http://marquette.org/.

Does your company employ a majority of NMU alumni or have student interns? We would love to hear your story!  Please contact the Alumni Association Office at alumni@nmu.edu to share.

This issue’s Staying Wild column was written by Shelby Guilbault, a Senior Public Relations major, and student worker in the Advancement office this summer.
