The view from the 6th floor!
Much needed rain swept through the UP this week and has brought with it relatively cooler temperatures. The cooler nights have made great sleeping weather.

President and Mrs. Jamrich were hosted by President and Mrs. Haynes to a lunch on campus today. Although retired from NMU for nearly 40 years, they continue to impact NMU students and programs through the John X. and June A. Jamrich Endowed Music Scholarship and the John X. and June A. Jamrich Endowment for the Arts. It was great to see the former president back on campus.

Jeanne Velin Short ’72 and Rob Short offer greetings to NMU Alumni from the coast of Maine! They’ve celebrated their 5th anniversary as owners/innkeepers of Victorian by the Sea Bed & Breakfast (www.victorianbythesea.com), a historic 113 year old home with an ocean view a few miles north of Camden, Maine. After retiring from a career in fundraising, Jeanne moved from Oklahoma to Maine with husband, Robert, to enjoy the beauty and outdoor activities of coastal Maine. They love to host NMU alumni and invite Wildcats to vacation in Maine which Jeanne says is surprisingly similar to the UP! Call or email if you would like information about the many things to do in Maine: inn@victorianbythesea.com
Dr. Michael Jurmu '91 Receives UW System Teaching Award

Dr. Jurmu is proud to say his first degree is from NMU. NMU is just as proud of him and the fact he was honored with this award. The award recognizes extraordinary teaching within the University of Wisconsin System within Alliant Energy's services area. The full details of his award can be read here.
How cool to see the article in the last Horizons about the Marquette Choral Society, with whom I sang during my years at Northern. It was also cool to see my 18 year old face in the 1974 picture with Douglas Amman and current pictures of my choir friends, Sandy Balmer and Carole Bard. I enjoy singing now with the Flint Festival Chorus and make Christmas appearances on Channel 13 in the choir as part of the Holiday Pops program, originating from Flint.
