A Message from Alumni Association Board President, Jim Jenkin

Last month over 1000 students officially became alumni of Northern Michigan University.  They may be leaving NMU, but they will always be a part of the Wildcat community.   We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors and, as Alumni Association Board President, I hope the new graduates stay involved and engaged with NMU.  You may have heard of some exciting changes that will hopefully allow alumni to better do so.

After much research and careful consideration, the NMU Alumni Association Board of Directors has decided to take alumni involvement to the next level to ensure all alumni are engaged with their alma mater.   The Board, in advancing the Alumni Association, has extended membership to all alumni. This means all Wildcats are members of the NMU Alumni Association at no charge

By allowing all NMU alumni to be a part of the Association at no cost, we can work together to further the mission to cultivate a strong tradition of loyalty, involvement and service among alumni, students, friends and community while advancing the interests of the university.

More members mean more resources, experiences and expertise to:

  • Strengthen relationships between students and alumni;
  • Establish new events, networks and programs, offering ways to fully engage your alma mater;
  • Develop a strong Wildcat culture of philanthropy and service.

We hope that with these new changes, you will continue to support the growth and progress of your Association by making an annual gift to support events, programs and new opportunities to stay connected.  We need our alumni to stay in touch and engaged. Support can be made at www.nmu.edu/give.

While we look to the future of your NMU Alumni Association and the incredible opportunities it holds, I’d like to take this time to say thank you to our past dues paying members and Lifetime Members.  Your valuable contributions have helped support, guide and shape the futures of the university and its students, provided scholarships, brought classmates together nation-wide and created opportunities to prepare NMU students for the world beyond the commencement stage.  Thank you.

If you have related questions, comments or suggestions as to how the Alumni Association can better serve alumni, or to request an Alumni Association membership card, please e-mail us at alumni@nmu.edu  or call the Alumni Association office at (906) 227-2627.  And in the spirit of connectedness, please take a moment to update your contact information to ensure you receive all of the latest news and updates about your alma mater.   If you know of other alumni who may not be connected, please share this information and ask them to update their contact information, so that they too can benefit from membership in the NMU Alumni Association.

Stay wild. Stay connected.

Jim Jenkin, President
NMU Alumni Association

Alumni Participate in Orientation Training

Last week five NMU alumni participated in a training session to help prepare this year’s student staff for summer orientation. John Spigarelli ’01, Loren Snyder ’96 ’99,  Mary Snyder ’98 ’07,  Jeremy Pickens ’01 and Victoria Leonhardt ’11 relived their orientation experiences and shared stories on how the start of their college careers were impacted by those first few summer days at NMU. If you are interested in speaking with students about your time at NMU, send us an e-mail at alumni@nmu.edu.  There are many ways for alumni to be involved with the student experience.
