Awards Criteria

These awards recognize alumni who have received an associate, bachelor, master's or educational specialist degree from NMU and who have been a positive influence on their professions or on their communities through public service, or who have distinguished themselves through their outstanding achievements that place them above the norm.

Distinguished Alumni Award

This award recognizes an NMU alumnus/alumna who is outstanding in his/her profession and has made significant contributions to society and/or profession. Other factors include demonstrated leadership and/or honors received that clearly sets them apart from their peers; a person who is distinguished by his or her achievements.

  • Awarded: Once per year during Homecoming weekend
  • Application deadline: Dec. 31
  • Maximum number of recipients: Two

Alumni Achievement Award

This award recognizes an NMU alumnus/alumna who has notable professional achievements on a regional or local level. Other factors include contributions to their community and documented leadership at the regional or local level.

  • Awarded: Once per year during Homecoming weekend
  • Application deadline: Dec. 31
  • Maximum number of recipients: Two

Outstanding Young Alumni Award

This award recognizes an NMU alumnus/alumna under 36 years of age, as of Dec. 31 in the year submitted, who has demonstrated achievements in service to NMU, professional success, civic involvement, business, political arenas or other notable activities that clearly set the individual apart from his or her peers.

  • Awarded: Once per year during Homecoming Weekend
  • Application Deadline: Dec. 31
  • Maximum number of recipients: Two

Alumni Service Award

This award recognizes an NMU alumnus/alumna whose volunteerism, contributions and/or recruitment efforts on behalf of NMU are above the norm, evidenced by loyal and outstanding service to areas such as the NMU Alumni Association, the NMU Foundation or other university committees and programs.

  • ¬†Awarded: Once per year during Homecoming weekend
  • ¬†Application deadline: Dec. 31
  • ¬†Maximum number of recipients: Two

Community Service and Distinguished Citizenship Award

This award recognizes an NMU alum whose volunteer service to his/her community has been outstanding for a minimum of 10 years.
