Daryl Vizina '01
Daryl is the Cheboygan County Prosecuting Attorney. He was first elected in 2008 at the age of 29, which made him the second youngest elected Prosecuting Attorney in Michigan. His office handles all criminal cases in Cheboygan county, abuse/neglect petitions, child support establishment and some civil work.
As Prosecuting Attorney, Daryl has implemented programs that identify high-risk, but non-violent offenders and parolees and attempt to rehabilitate them as an alternative to incarceration. His office works to provide each offender education and employment, with positive results. Daryl is also actively involved in school education programs. He annually presents at every county school in Cheboygan regarding bullying, sex and the law and has created an aggressive anti-drug program.
Daryl is heavily involved in the Cheboygan community, where he coaches youth football and basketball. He is also the founder of the 100 Club of Cheboygan County, a program that assists police/firefighters — and/or their families — while injured on duty; and the Community Action Coalition. Daryl is also an instructor at North Central Michigan College.
Daryl graduated from NMU in May of 2001 with a Political Science degree and a Speech communication Minor. He later attended the Michigan State University College of Law, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in May of 2004.
