Jillian Seguin - Senior Admissions Counselor
Hometown: Alpena, MI
Personal/professional biography: I am a 2008 graduate of Alpena High School where I began my college studies as a Fine Arts major at Alpena Community College (ACC). After earning my Associate's Degree at ACC, I transferred to Western Michigan University and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor's of Art in Organizational Communication. During my time at WMU, I had the best on-campus job as a Student Ambassador for the Office of Admissions. Alongside 200 other WMU students, we gave thousands of campus tours, welcomed families to campus and staffed all sorts of events. It was during that time that my love for admissions work started. Looking for a bit of adventure, the day after graduating WMU I hightailed it out to Denver, Colorado to begin a career in graphic design and ultimately landed in Philadelphia at the Wharton School of Business as their Marketing Coordinator in the MBA Admissions Office in 2013. After spending a couple of years in Philly, I was looking for a new challenge and returned to Kalamazoo, MI for a graphic design position with Stryker, a medical technology company. There I had the opportunity to travel the country while working closely within Stryker's Emergency Services division. In 2016 I thought I'd recenter my life back in my hometown of Alpena, where I now reside with my tiny dog, Rizzo.
Favorite Marquette activity: Eating a salted caramel Nutella cupcake from Gophers Bakery down by the gorgeous Lake Superior waterfront. Or eating anything, really. The food scene is incredible.
Most memorable college experience: Getting to be a part of the Student Ambassador Program and share how awesome your college experience can be with incoming students and their families.
Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone else entering college: Location, location, location! I always advise anyone to think about how well they like the city and community where they will be living for a significant portion of their life. How do you like the culture? The people? Is there a Pier One? You know, the important things.
