I got my BFA from NMU in 1993 with a concentration in photography.

I maintain a freelance photo business here in Marquette, where I cover assignments for such clients as NMU, and The Detroit Free Press, among others.

In addition, my photo company, Marquette Photo (marquettephoto.com) is the official photographer of the 2 major sporting events in Marquette, the Noquemanon Ski Marathon in January, and the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic in August.  These events draw between 1,500 and 2,100 participants each year.

I hire a crew of 4 or 5 photographers and support staff to help photograph every participant from several points along the race courses, with the idea of selling prints to the participants.

Photography is one of my passions, cycling and design are two more.

My main business these days incorporates my taste for cycling and design, while still benefiting from my photography.

My company Bike Furniture Design creates unique furniture that we sell to customers around the world through our website, BikeFurniture.com.

To give you some background on my work, there is a recent interview on a New York - based website here: bikehacks.com

There is also a very informative article in Upper Peninsula Magazine by Frida Waara here bikefurniture.com./frida

In my next post I will get back to how I feel that the photography skills that I learned at NMU are crucial to the widespread recognition of my furniture designs.
