Erin Astle - Assistant Director of Admissions, Northern Wisconsin
Hometown: Ottawa, IL
Professional/personal biography: I graduated from NMU in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Spanish. Throughout my time at NMU, I participated and worked with a number of different organizations. I ran Northern’s very own radio station and had my own radio show, planned 12+ concerts for First Aid Productions, high jumped for the Women’s Track and Field team, helped plan Homecoming and the Northern Nights concert series, played French horn in the orchestra, participated in house and hall government for Hunt Hall, worked in the Center for Student Enrichment and the Beaumier Heritage Center, and graduated with the Superior Edge.
Most memorable college experience: All my favorite memories stem from my time spent in First Aid Productions, a student-run concert production group. I met many of my closest friends through the time spent organizing, promoting, and enjoying live music together.
Favorite Marquette activity: I love doing anything on the beach: laying on the beach, walking on the beach, playing with my dog on the beach, reading on the beach…you get the idea.
Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: As a high school teacher, my dad is always giving advice to students about college. He told me that while it’s important to meet new people and make new friends, staying in touch with friends from high school is equally important. I have some amazing friends that I met at NMU, but I’m so glad I’m still best friends with the same girl I was best friends with in high school. Whether for networking in the future, or simply maintaining a connection to where you came from, never underestimate the importance of keeping those friendships strong.
