Katie Berger, Assistant Director of Admissions
Hometown: I was born and raised in Petoskey, MI, a small town about 35 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge. It was an easy transition to call Marquette my second home and I have loved living here since my freshmen year of college!
Personal/professional biography: I graduated from NMU in May 2008 with degrees in health, history, and physical education. I graduated again from NMU in May of 2012 with a master's degree in Education Administration and Supervision. As an undergraduate, I worked in the campus visit office and am excited to be back in the admissions office!
Most memorable college experience: Being a student at NMU was an experience I’ll never forget. I have so many great memories of friends, athletic events, and classroom activities. My best college experience was completing my student teaching in New Zealand. Being immersed in another culture and student teaching was a great way to end my undergraduate career.
Favorite Marquette activity: I love to be outside in either sunshine or snow!! In the summer and fall, it’s fun to enjoy Marquette’s beautiful beaches and hiking spots. In the winter, I love to snowshoe, hike, and play in the snow!
Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone else entering college: College is a lot more independent than high school, so prioritize your time wisely. It’s important to stay on top of your studies, but it’s important to have fun too! Take advantage of all the exciting opportunities NMU offers with internships, speakers, and student organizations, it’s easy to get involved and enjoy your time at NMU!
