Professional/Personal Biography:

In 2009, I moved from SE Michigan to the UP to start my adventure at NMU. I graduated in 2014 with a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management. During my time as a student I was very active on campus and involved in many activities. I also worked in the Admissions office for 4 years of my undergrad, calling prospective students and assisting with the Campus Visit Program. After graduation, I stayed in the area and worked with the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter for a few years helping people connect with their new lifelong companions. I also worked with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources working on habitat improvement projects and mitigating nuisance wildlife issues, including trapping and relocating nuisance bears. After a few years of working with pets and wildlife, I realized that my passion was actually connecting with people. Because of that, I returned back to NMU’s Admissions Office and love every minute of sharing NMU and the Marquette area with students and their families.

Most Memorable College Experience:

My most memorable college experience was being able to create a student organization that was rooted in my interests and academics. In my sophomore year, I founded the NMU Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society (now known as the NMU Fisheries and Wildlife Association). As a part of leading the organization, I had the pleasure of planning field trips and activities too. My favorite trip was to the International Wolf Center in Ely, MN where a few other club members and I traveled to the center for a radio telemetry workshop. Not only did we get to learn how to use the research equipment to track wolves in the wild, we also got to fly in a plane and learn first-hand how aerial telemetry worked. We saw many moose and lots of wolf sign from the air. I will never forget that!

Favorite Marquette Activity:

Kayaking with my cat, Ruger. Yes, you read that right… He is a brave adventure cat!

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college:

Try new things! It is easy to get on a routine with what is familiar and comfortable to you. If you branch out and explore new opportunities or push yourself a little out of your comfort zone, you will find that you can do some pretty cool things and meet some really awesome people along the way.
