Decisions, decisions, decisions. As your life unfolds, there will be many of these. Few, however, will rival the importance of not only seeking a university education but also selecting Northern Michigan University. I, too, came to NMU for many of the same reasons you did. I look forward to seeing you around campus. Stop me, say hi, introduce yourself. I am convinced that both of us made an excellent decision to come here.

Be prepared! The environment here at NMU is based upon a high-touch, high-tech philosophy. You will be challenged to think, write, calculate and create like you’ve never done before. You’ll also make new friends, develop a new sense of independence, and, more importantly, learn more about your own self-defined role in the world. The total experience of a rich and robust university education characterizes an NMU education. Engage the university; make it your own.

NMU is blessed with talented and experienced faculty and professional and caring staff. NMU is a place where you will learn skills and ideas that will give you many career options. NMU is also a place where we hope a lifelong commitment to learning begins. Personally, I would add that NMU is a place where you will begin to “own your own mind.” The 21st century already promises to be a challenging one. Your thinking is the return on our investment in you. Develop it wisely.
