Dr. Susan J. Koch
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Susan J. Koch became Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Northern Michigan University on July 1, 2007. As the chief academic officer for the University, Dr. Koch works closely with the President, the Vice President of Finance and Administration and other members of the NMU leadership team. She is responsible for providing and promoting leadership and vision for academic programs, student services and outreach activities that facilitate student, faculty and staff success and that contribute to the overall mission and goals of the University. Before her appointment at Northern, Dr. Koch was Dean of the Graduate College and Associate Provost at the University of Northern Iowa.
William Bernard
Associate Provost for Student Services and Enrollment
Mr. William Bernard has been with Northern Michigan University as the Associate Provost for Student Services and Enrollment since July 2002. Prior to joining NMU, he held positions as Vice President of Student Services at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa, and Nicolet College in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He has also served in various other student services positions at Cayuga Community College, Auburn, New York, and Indian Hills Community College, Ottumwa, Iowa.
Bill's presentations include the American Association of Community Colleges, the Iowa Association of Student Personnel Administrators, National Student Services Conference, and the North Central Association. He has developed various programs that have earned institutions awards in diversity, financial aid, and student life.
Mr. Bernard holds a master's degree in Education Administration and a bachelor's degree in Technical Education from Northeast Missouri State University.
Dr. Cynthia Prosen
Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
Dr. Cynthia A. Prosen has served as the Dean of Graduate Studies, Research, and Continuing Education since January of 2005. She was appointed as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs in July of 2007. Working with the provost and the college deans, Dr. Prosen is responsible for all aspects of research and graduate studies administration, and for providing leadership and coordination in the areas of summer programs, academic accreditation, outcomes assessment, the Honors Program, and liberal studies. She also provides oversight for adult and continuing education. Prosen holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Psychobiology from the University of Michigan, and she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in auditory physiology at Northwestern University.
