TLC Award for Faculty

Purposes: This program recognizes exemplary faculty use of TLC laptops in the areas of teaching, research, and community service. The award is designed to recognize essential uses of the laptop in the academic environment. Up to five awards of $300 each across three categories will be made annually.

Categories:

  • Category 1: Teaching improvement. Demonstrating the application of educational technology for improving teaching effectiveness.
  • Category 2: Research applications. Demonstrating effectiveness of university laptops for professional research.
  • Category 3: Community-wide information outreach services. Outstanding community services using university laptops
    Application
This award program is open to all NMU faculty members or teams of faculty members (team entries will be treated as an individual entry). Submit application material electronically to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (lhares@nmu.edu) no later than 5 p.m. on October 31, 2008.

The application should be submitted to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs via e-mail with a completed Cover Form document as the first attachment, and the rest of the required materials listed below should also be attachments preferably in the order provided below.

The application must include:

  1. Completed Faculty Cover Form (limited to 2 pages).
  2. Description of the project or use being entered (less than 1500 words) – including application category, purposes of using laptops indicating specific goals of using laptops in the  application category, how the laptops are, specific software and any   add-on hardware used, and specific outcomes which can be documented.
  3. Example products (documents, drawings, applications, etc.)

Supporting materials should be submitted as additional attachments, keeping in mind that the servers limit the size of attachments to 1.5 megabytes.  For significantly larger size supporting materials, applicants should arrange for those materials to be available on a Web site.

You will receive an email confirmation of the receipt of your application materials.  If you do not receive such a confirmation email within 72 hours of the deadline for submission, please inquire to ensure your materials were received.

Evaluation procedure: A sub-committee of ETRPC will evaluate applications and submit a list of winners to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs by November 30.  Awards will be presented to winners during the Celebration of Scholarship the last week of regularly scheduled classes in December.

Conditions: The material submitted by the winners can be used by the University for TLC promotion purposes. Faculty may be asked to present their work to the Board of Trustees.
