An article by James Cantrill (Communication and Performance Studies) titled "Measurement and Meaning in Environmental Communication Studies: A Response to Kassing, Johnson, Kloeber, and Wentzel" was published in Environmental Communication: A Jounral of Nature and Culture. The article was an invited editorial response to Kassing and company's "Development and Validation of the Environmental Communication Scale in the same journal. After critiquing the work in terms of a number of issues related to the validity and reliability of their research, Cantrill concluded by suggesting that the research may provide a needed springboard for exploring the dynamics of interpersonal settings that mediate important dialogue and action regarding the environment.
