Achievements

Kia Jane Richmond (English) has been named president-elect of the Michigan Council of Teachers of English. Founded in 1924, the MCTE is an organization for K-16 English language arts teachers and English educators in Michigan, providing professional development for English language arts teachers and English education professors throughout the state.

The NMU chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha won two awards at the national summer meeting: Academic Achievement, which honors chapters with a grade point average that was first on a campus, or second or third on larger campuses with a greater number of fraternities; and the prestigious Bruce McIntosh Award, which recognizes chapters for the "significant achievements in the noble pursuit of excellence, particularly via use of the Standards for Chapter Excellence Program." The president of NMU's chapter is Jeff Matthias and the faculty adviser is Gary Stark (Business).
