Kia Jane Richmond (English) presented “Authentic Responding and Evaluating in an Online Writing Setting: English Education and ASL” June 19 at the Conference on English Education at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill. Her presentation was in a track titled “Beyond the ‘Methods’ Course: Alternative/Enhanced Field Experiences in Writing Teacher Education.”

Diane Sautter (English) gave a public reading on July 9 while participating in the seventh annual Rustbelt Roethke Professional Writers' Workshop at Saginaw Valley State University. The retreat-like gathering was comprised of 14 writers who've achieved a certain amount of success in the literary field. They critiqued each other's works in progress.

Kerri Schuiling (Nursing) gave two recent presentations. She addressed “Alcohol and Violence Against Women: Debunking a Myth” at the American College of Nurse-Midwives annual meeting held in May in Seattle, Wash. The presentation was based on a research project about domestic violence and alcohol that she co-directed with Ira Hutchison (Sociology/Social Work). Schuiling (Nursing) also presented “Body Image during Pregnancy and Its Relationship to Normal Birth” at the fourth Normal Birth conference held in June in the United Kingdom. The presentation was based on Schuiling’s research, which looks at the relationship of body image and labor and pregnancy outcomes.
